The Last Dodo (annotation)
This annotation is of The Last Dodo, by Jacqueline Rayner.
| Page | Quote | Notes |
| Title | The Last Dodo | The title reflects one of the principal themes of season 3 of the new series: that the Doctor is the Last of the Time Lords. |
| Prologue page 7 | Mauritius, 1681 | In reality, the exact time the dodo became extinct is uncertain. The last confirmed sighting was in 1662 and latest conjectures place the extinction of the dodo as 1693. The date of 1681 is a popular conjecture. |
| Chapter One page 15 | 'I can offer you... a kronkburger on Reblais Beta' | Originally introduced on a parallel earth (c.1977)ruled by the Malevilus in the DWW comic strip The Iron Legion, the krongburger was adopted by the new series during the Doctor, Rose and Adam's first visit to Satellite 5 in The Long Game. The kronkburger is low quality fast food - the galactic equivalent of the hamburger, and it is fairly safe to assume that the kronk is the name of a herd animal farmed to provide the meat. They must be popular for the term to survive 5 billion years unchanged. |
| pages 18-21 | The I-Spyder Book of Earth Creatures | Based on the I-Spy book series of children's spotter guides popular in the 1950s, 60 and 70s, the I-Spyder books are available as slim plastic slabs reminiscent of 'a large iPod'. |
| pages 26-29 | Museum of the Last Ones (MOTLO) 'Home to the last remaining specimen of every otherwise extinct life form in the universe' | A future museum covering the entire northern hemisphere of the planet it occupies, MOTLO includes exhibits from Earth, Mars, Mondas, Refusis II, Raxacoricofallapatorius Refusis II, Tara, Varos and Venus. |
