Following the initial success of BBC Books' New Series Adventures, it was decided to put forward a Doctor Who story for publication under the Quick Reads initiative.
Launched by Tony Blair on World Book Day 2006, the Quick Reads initiative (www.quickreads.org.uk) was set up to provide short, bite-sized books by bestselling writersfor new readers and people with reading difficulties. A collaboration between authors, libraries, publishers, retailers, the education sector and others, each book has also been supported by a set of learning resources.
