a sphere of thought and influence (usually applied to a culture or civilisation)

retcon
"retroactive continuity": the use of metatext to rewrite, redefine or reinterpret continuity

spin-off
a body of work based on a specific character or situation introduced as part of the canon, but not necessarily bound by the rules or history that it has defined

unauthorized
a work that has been commissioned or published without the knowledge or consent of the rights-holder.
