Known only as Doctor Who, the 1996 TV movie is the only story that did not have a production title. It was subsequently suggested by executive producer Philip Segal that the story be referred to as Enemy Within.

Premiering in Canada on 12th May 1996, the story was broadcast on the Fox Network in the US on 14th May 1996, and on BBC1 in the UK on 27th May 1996. In the same month the novel of the film by Gary Russell was published by BBC books.
