Anathema is a city/planetoid that first appeared in BBC Books' eighth Doctor adventure Interference Part One by Lawrence Miles.

Location

Anathema is a city that travels from the Solar System's Oort Could towards Earth c.1996.

Inhabitants

The Remote are survivors of a human colony once loyal to Faction Paradox. Anathema is the home of former Remote agent Laura Tobin (aka Compassion).

History

Anathema is the name of the city built on the side of a planetoid that originally came from the Solar System's Kuiper Belt. Converted into a weapon using block transfer technology, the planetoid was adopted as home by the Remote, who used a central media transmitter to transmit signals which allowed the city to be built. Amongst its signals, the transmitter controls fighters which continuously attack its own buildings.

Environment

Anathema is a city built on a disc-shaped planetoid which was, in fact, a gigantic Time Lord warship. Cracks on the surface allow the Time Lords' weapon of mass destruction - The Cold - to seep to the surface.

Notes

• The Time Lord's weapon of mass destruction is aimed at Earth, which was identified as the enemy's place of origin.
